Welcome MN 510! This blog is designed to review the many ways technology can assist in healthcare communication. This is not limited to communications among doctors and nurses, but between all healthcare professionals, patient to healthcare professionals, and among patients. Technology can facilitate understanding as in the case of physician order entry systems, or provide support in the form of discussion boards for those with rare diseases. The explosion of the internet has made information ever easier to obtain, and communication of that information can be invaluable in healthcare.

Emily,
ReplyDeleteMy employer is tauted as the leader in the development of Computer generated medical records. This new focus did cause staff (physicians and others) some discomfort. Most of the staff, today can't image what it would be like to have to go back to the paper medical records. From time to time we have downtime and must revert back to keep track of medications given/ordered by the old fashion method and we have to be retrained in the process.

Emily, I suggest you start blogging. Try to incorporate as many technologies possible. Try to embedd a video, SurveyMonkey, Voki etc. MAT
ReplyDeleteEMARs and a new computer program! What a mess! We are 5 months into it and nurse morale is down and nurses are still staying 1 to 2 hours to finish charting. Uuuugg!
ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteTechnology certainly has more benefits than disadvantages. It would be wonderful in such a mobile society as ours to be able to view charts from anywhere at the simple touch of a computer. I know it opens up all kinds of hairballs but in the emergency room when it's Sunday night and the patient has a complex medical history having his entire medical history at one's fingertips helps the healthcare team to make more comprehensive actions. Many, many of these people don't even know the medications they are on for years. Good Post.
